The summer is here, and swimsuit season is right around the corner. With warmth in the air, there is an inclination towards more physical activity in the great outdoors. Because of this there is tendency to overindulge and overdo when the circumstances allow. The pressure to shape up places more stress on muscles which may not be used to the summer activity assault. Furthermore, leaving the controlled environment of the gym means that our bodies will be stressed and strained in ways we are not used to.

Welcome to the world of . . .

Sports Related Injuries!

It is all too common to hear someone complaining about various injuries such as tennis elbow, hamstring pulls, or calf cramps. Unfortunately, not so common is the knowledge of how effective massage can be in treating such conditions. Massage applied either prior to or after the activity of your choice can prove to be more beneficial than you can possibly imagine. You may not know it but massage can actually speed up your recovery from exertion related injuries and help to protect you from the reoccurence of injuries down the road. There is also a growing awareness of how instrumental massage can be in the improvement of peak performance.

As every condition varies, so goeth the treatment. The type of massage received would be based exclusively on the diagnosis or chief complaint, and dictated by the discretionof the therapist on what is considered appropriate. (And of course the therapist should be licenced!)

Summer sports are a great way of enjoying the great outdoors. Just allow a bit of extra time to warm up and a bit of extra caution to have a happy and healthy and hopefully pain free season. When you need it help is available, right at our finger tips!
